Kirk: “Scotty! We need more CORE !”

For those of us who came of age in the 1960’s and for the generations that have come since, Captain James Kirk, of Star Trek Fame, has become a cult hero. Did you know that Captain Kirk was also a philosopher, personal trainer and business management consultant.?

I didn’t until I saw the most recent Star Trek movie.

I swear it’s true. In this latest movie he was able to distill to a single word – the essential and underlying concept of a successful business or career.

That word is CORE.   Is there any word that better describes the central dynamo, that drives businesses forward and provides the nucleus for growth?

Is there any business that doesn’t need a stronger core? A more comprehensive set of business operations, processes, added value products, employees that powers our own enterprises.

This podcast episode is the first of a series that delves into the issues of building a stronger Business Core. In this and upcoming podcasts and blogs, I’ll examine in more detail what it means to have more Business Core and how to obtain it.

Businesses ALWAYS need more CORE.  A stronger business Core directly corresponds to higher profits, greater revenues, a better workforce, happier customers and most importantly – business longevity.

The latter is a critical concept since a business needs to stick around long enough to maximize the return on its investment and reach it’s optimum potential. More Core = Stronger Business = longer lifespan = greater ROI.

This episode lays the foundation for attaining more Core and explains the three major components that are required but are generally lacking in any organization in their quest to build a strong business.

  •           Dedication
  •          Persistance
  •          Time

Yes, every business needs more core. Those businesses that embrace this concept of continual, perpetual refinement of their basic business functions are the market leaders. The leadership of these organizations knows that standing still is akin to weakening their Core.

As Captain Kirk correctly notes – “We need more Core!”
